Amazon will be hosting its third annual Prime Day — a sales event created to rival the staggering savings of the traditional Black Friday after Thanksgiving — on Monday, July 10 starting at 9pm ET through July 11th. This means its top competitors – think Walmart, Kohl’s, Best Buy – will be releasing equally awesome savings to contend with Amazon’s Prime Day launch.


Amazon Prime Day, originally hyped as having “more deals than Black Friday”, is characterized by extensive savings and flash sales, and has caused a chain reaction of popular retailers following suit with epic mid-summer sales. Macy’s    This quintessential retailer always offers deep holiday deals, and last year during their Black Friday in July sale they offered up to 80% off a range of categories like:

  • 50% off designer swimwear.
  • 70% off select fine jewelry.
  • 50% off select dresses.
  • 75% off men’s clearance.

Best Buy     Last year, Best Buy claimed to have the “hottest deals” and boasted that, unlike many retailers, no membership was required to get in on the savings. The electronic retailer’s promotion featured deals across all categories, including 20% off select HDTVs and up to 40% off major appliances. They also announced that Best Buy would match the prices of major online and local retailers, including Amazon, Dell, and Newegg.

Walmart    Last year, the world’s largest retailer released a “Dare to Compare” sale to compete with Amazon’s Prime Day. The sale featured extensive discounts on toys, electronics and more. Walmart also offered more than 2,000 rollbacks available exclusively online for the Dare to Compare sale, encouraging consumers to shop online.

To further encourage shoppers, Walmart offered free shipping with a no minimum purchase feature throughout the 4 day sale.

JCPenney’s    Last year, JCPenney’s launched the 48-hour “Penney Palooza”, rewarding shoppers with an extra 25% off their order, and shoppers with the JCPenney credit card score an extra 30%.

In addition to site wide savings, Penney Palooza included an extra 15% off select furniture, mattresses, and more. Last year during the two-day sale, JCPenney dropped its free shipping minimum from $99 to $49.

Forever 21    Last year during Black Friday in July, this trendy apparel retailer offered shoppers discounts up to 70% off. The sale covered a variety of categories in women’s, men’s and kids’ clothing, and its Black Friday deals were available exclusively online.
