We`ve got a great DIY project just in time for the holiday season!
With the holidays just around the corner, we`re ready to get into the spirit and these DIY scented pine cones make a great decoration to add a bit of flair to your table`s centerpiece and will also freshen up your living space by using essential oils! What we love about this festive decoration is that you can use them from fall into the winter season - you can even freshen up the scent when you feel it has faded.
What you`ll need:
- Pine cones
- Essential oils
- Cookie sheet
- Foil
- Plastic bag
- Spray bottle
Instructions:
Step 1: Clean Your Pine Cones
Once you`ve collected pine cones “we collected ours ourselves from our backyard“ you should clean them by washing them in the sink. This will remove any sap or insects. After they`ve been washed, place them on a foil-lined cookie sheet and bake them for one hour at 200 F. Allow them to cool
Step 2: Choose Your Essential Oils
For this project, we`re a big fan of warm scents like cinnamon and nutmeg but also suggest brighter scents reminiscent of the holidays - like peppermint and pine.
Step 3: Spray Pine Cones
Add 15-20 drops of your preferred essential oil or blend to a spray bottle that contains about 1/2 cup of distilled water, close and shake the bottle and spray your pine cones evenly.
Step 4: Dry & Store Your Pine Cones
Place your pine cones in a re-sealable plastic bag for 24 hours, remove and let air dry. You can keep your pine cones in the plastic bag to help them keep their scent until you are ready to display them as your centerpiece. What`s your favorite way to decorate for the season?
