Just when you thought that keeping up with washing your face twice a day was enough, we're here to introduce you to an even more complicated (yet beneficial!) skincare situation: the art of Double Cleansing. Scratching your head? It's okay. We'll make sense of this for you.
You know the steps in your daily beauty routine: wash your face with a cleanser, use a toner, and moisturize to wrap it all up? Now there's one more step involved, and that is varying what you do in stage one with your cleanser.
Instead of using just an oil-based cleanser or a water-based cleanser, this Double Cleansing method suggests you use both. Each has its own unique benefits, so it makes sense to bring them both into the daily drill. Here's why:
- Using an oil cleanser helps to restore moisture in the skin, but it doesn't always do a great job of getting the dirt and grim off your skin.
- Using a water-based cleanser is just the opposite of the oil cleanser, it can leave you clean-as-can-be, but depending on the type of cleanser used you may be left in need of some TLC with moisturizer.
So together they work like partners in crime--soothing, cleaning, and restoring your skin.
Now that you know about the method, here's how to incorporate it! There are a few steps:
Use the oil cleanser first. Apply the oil cleanser to dry skin and massage it into the face in circular motion. Then using warm water, gently wash the oil off, it should emulsify.
Next up water-based cleanser. Once you've soothed your skin, it's time to thoroughly clean it! Apply your normal cleanser, wash, and dry.
Voila! You are done.
Wondering what type of oil to use as a cleanser? While you can buy an expensive "oil cleanser", traditional Argan Oil makes for a cost-effective alternative. It only takes a few items to make your own Argan Oil infused cleanser. Check this one out:
