One plant synonymous with winter is the spruce tree. The tall, furry evergreen that exists in nature, perpetually always covered with snow, and smells like the freshness of Christmas time. Is it any surprise that this image makes us want to bring the aroma into our homes 24/7? After all, if the winter is going to continue being brutally cold, the least we can do is make the most of our favorite parts. Wouldn't you agree?
Let's talk a bit about Spruce Essential Oil (plus, a short history lesson!).
Spruce Essential Oil comes from the evergreen tree, which is native to the Northern Hemisphere. Some of these trees can grow to be a massive 200 feet tall, and live to be over 100 years old! Traditionally they were used in Native American practices, and as a source of paper. Today you can find them in people's yards, or manufactured into musical instruments, like the violin.
As for the essential oil itself, this comes from steam distilling the needles and twigs of the tree. The result is a woody, evergreen scent with sweet undertones. It's a winter treat since the aroma is clarifying, and can awaken your body/mind. In fact, it's a favorite for meditating since its potent scent is both familiar, and refreshing.
Now that the bases are covered, it's time to get blending!
