The Target Cartwheel program is one of my favorite ways to save at Target! It’s a great way to save money without having to clip a single coupon. If you’re new to Cartwheel or just have questions, here’s a little Q&A for you: What is Cartwheel? Cartwheel is a free app that helps you save anywhere from 5-50% on products without paper coupons. Choose percent-off offers and cents-off digital manufacturer coupons in the app, then have a cashier scan your unique barcode at checkout. All the offers and coupons you selected will be applied to your total in one simple scan. What if I don’t have a smartphone? Can I still use Cartwheel? If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still use Cartwheel! Head to the Cartwheel site, sign up or sign in, and select “Print Barcode” along the left-hand side of your screen. Then just add the offers you want on the site and bring your printed-out barcode to the register. Since your personal barcode never changes, you can keep the barcode for future use. I recommend keeping the barcode in your wallet. I’ve also seen people cut out the barcode and tape it to the back of their phone. BONUS: If you have an Apple phone, you can export your shopping list into the iOS Notes app by hitting the “Share” button. This is especially useful if you typically write your general shopping list in Notes. Can I stack Cartwheel offers with coupons? Yes! This is one of the reasons why I love Cartwheel. Cartwheel offers can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon, a Target coupon, as well as your Target REDcard! AND Cartwheel offers don’t interfere with gift card promotions! However, you can’t use Cartwheel when price matching. How many times can a Cartwheel offer be used? Each Cartwheel offer can be used up to four times per transaction, unless otherwise stated on the offer. There’s a limit of one Cartwheel barcode per transaction, and you can use your Cartwheel barcode up to six times (or do six Cartwheel transactions) in one day. How many Cartwheel offers can I use at once? New Cartwheel users get to add 10 offers to their barcode. For instance, if you have 10 different offers and purchase all 10 products in one transaction, you’ll save on all 10 items. The more you use and save with Cartwheel, the more offers you can use per transaction. When you’re eligible to use more offers, Cartwheel will notify you and award you with a fun digital badge. And I’m not gonna lie, it feels pretty special earning badges called “Offerus Maximus,” “Blazing Saver,” and “Ninja.” In what order do I need to present my Cartwheel barcode? Before or after coupons? Have the cashier scan your Cartwheel barcode after you’ve handed over all your coupons. Most cashiers already know to do this, but just in case. Keep in mind that when using Cartwheel with other coupons, the Cartwheel discount comes off after Target store coupons have been applied and before manufacturer coupons. Check out the example above. This is how discounts are deducted from your total:
  • Target coupons ($0.50 off Colgate toothpaste)
  • Cartwheel offers (5% off dental care)
  • Manufacturer coupons ($1.00 off Colgate toothpaste, 6 oz or larger)
  • Target threshold coupons ($5 off $20 personal hygiene purchase)
  • Target REDcard savings (5% off everything)
How do I know if an item has a Cartwheel offer while I’m shopping? This is where the built-in scanning tool comes in handy. Simply open up your Cartwheel app and choose “Scan Product” from the menu along the left. Once scanned, you’ll find out if the product has an offer. BONUS: Cartwheel now has a store map that will show you where the items you’ve added to your list are located within the store. When you go to “My List,” choose “My Store” at the top and allow Cartwheel to access your location. Cartwheel doesn’t work in my store. What do I do? I don’t add my Cartwheel offers until I’m in the store, but on many occasions the app doesn’t even open because of poor signal. Solution:Target has free Wi-Fi that you can connect to while you’re in-store. Go to your phone settings and select Target Guest Wi-Fi. You must accept the terms and conditions for using Target’s Wi-Fi, but once you’re connected you should be able to use the Cartwheel app with no problem. Instead of waiting for your barcode to load at checkout, take a screenshot of your barcode and just pull the image up for the cashier to scan. How often does Cartwheel update? And does everyone see the same offers? Every Cartwheel user has access to the same offers, but Target has recently started providing offers that are specific to your store and area. For example, if you live by a SuperTarget, you’ll see offers for meat and produce while those who don’t live near a SuperTarget, will not. Just like Target coupons, most new Cartwheel offers are available on Sunday morning, but Thursday is also a big Cartwheel day. So it’s wise to check daily for any special discounts; many high-value, limited-time offers become available at random. What if the Cartwheel discount didn’t get applied to my purchase? There are some instances where the Cartwheel discount doesn’t come off. In this case all you need to do is take your receipt to Guest Services and they’ll correct any missed discounts.
