Just like your own food, reviewing the ingredient list for your dog’s food should be your first step when buying. Spotting the bad stuff might seem overwhelming, but once you know what to look for, it’s quick and easy.

First, go with the golden rule of looking at human food – you want ingredients you can pronounce. Then, when it comes to the list as a whole, pay attention to the first six listed. The higher on the list it is, the more of it there is in the food.

After those two steps, it’s always a good idea to go the low-carb route. High-quality fresh foods should have less than 15% carbohydrate levels since starch is not necessary to bind the food together. And, you must note that not all proteins are created equal. When selecting your dog food, it’s important to choose a food that’s high in meat protein and low in plant protein and carbohydrates.

At Grocery Pup, all of their recipes are less than 10% carbohydrates and 90% of the protein comes from the meat to ensure your pup gets the nutritionally appropriate and tasty meats your pup enjoys.
