I've lived here my whole life, and I've walked through the lobbies, courtyards, and public spaces of more NOLA hotels than I can count — scoping them out for content, for friends and family visiting, for the just-because afternoon a local takes to explore their own city.
Every hotel below has its own write-up along with historical background, location context, and what you can expect just from arriving and walking in — so you can get a feel for a property before you book, even though I haven't stayed overnight myself (yet).
A quick note: some links on this page are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you book through them — at no extra cost to you. It's how I keep this site (and the free content) running. These are properties I've personally visited and walked through, though not necessarily stayed at overnight — I'll always be upfront about which is which as I add more content (and update this once I do start doing overnight stays too).
Own or manage any of these properties or ones not covered? I'd love to collaborate — reach out at

French Quarter
Stay here if you want to walk everywhere — Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, all of it within a few blocks. It's the most touristy area of the city, but also the most iconic, and there's a real range from historic luxury to affordable boutique inns.

St. Francisville
About two hours north of New Orleans, St. Francisville is a great day (or overnight) trip if you want a taste of Louisiana's plantation-era history and small-town charm outside the city. One of its most notable stops is Myrtles Plantation, known both for its 18th-century architecture and its reputation as one of the most haunted homes in America.
