According to Ayurveda (Ayurveda or Ayurvedic medicine is a system of Hindu traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine.) powdered coriander is good for digestion. It also increases appetite. It helps in purifying the blood and curing inflammation, fever and as well as various allergies. Due to `cooling` qualities of coriander, this spice is considered to be very beneficial for restoring the `Pitta` balance. If consumed in smaller quantities it can be beneficial for Vata and Kapha also. Coriander also helps in cleansing the body by detoxifying it.
Coriander has a strong aroma. In powdered form, it can be consumed either independently or after mixing it with certain other Ayurvedic spices. In powdered form, Coriander is generally taken with water. Powdered coriander mixed with powdered aniseed cure uneasiness and provide relief from high fever as well as control inflammation. Depending on the disease, powdered coriander can be used by mixing it with a wide range of other spices such as turmeric, black pepper etc. When mixed with sugar and rice water, powdered coriander helps children suffering from breathing problems. It also provides relief to pregnant women by checking vomit. During summers, it can be used for curing sunstroke. However, one has to be careful as large quantities of coriander, can affect the health adversely also.
Coriander is used during some worshipping rituals also. Due to its strong aroma sometimes it is mixed with some other substances such as ghee also. That takes away the sharpness of aroma as well as tone down its taste. Pure coriander powder has a stringent taste and it may not be easy to consume it in its pure form. Apart from water, it is also taken with milk. Due to `strong` qualities of this wonderful spice, it is always advisable to consume it on the advise of a qualified practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine. Though powdered coriander is useful in restoring balance of all three-Vata, Pitta and Kapha-yet the quantity may vary according to the physiology of a person and the disease for which he or she is being treated.
I was sent some Jiva USDA Organic Coriander Ground 7-Ounce Bag to try out for myself. I`ve tried previous products from Jiva and each time they have been high quality. Once again this time around it was the same thing - a high quality product. While I find it hard to really describe coriander products, I can tell you it`s a great product to have in the kitchen for cooking. It also has tons of great uses as you read above. My only complaint with this particular brand is not having a re-sealable bag. It`s just more convenient when you have one where as this particular brand does not have it. It does not affect my buying decision in this particular case, but just something I think the company should consider for the future. As far as the quality goes it`s high quality and tastes great when you cook with it. I wouldn`t recommend eating it alone, but as a spice or additive it`s great! I`ve definitely become a fan of Jiva Organics brand products and honestly trust them.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
