If you're a fan of essential oils and aromatherapy then you will be a fan of the Dream Elements Calming Pillow Spray. As someone who uses essential oils often, from aromatherapy (Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils to maintain health and well being.) to homemade cleaning products, I was super excited about this spray. Let me say, this is not a "miracle make you go to sleep spray." Rather, it is a mixture of essential oils that are known to help calm and relax you. Obviously, once you are calm, your body is more easily able to relax and fall asleep. The more relaxed you are, the better night of sleep you can expect to get.

So what essential oils are used in this spray? Well, here's a break down:

Chamomile Essential Oil

Chamomile is known to calm the mind and eases fear, anxiety, anger, worries and tension during times of physical and emotional stress. It is said to bring peace, patience, and enhances overall feelings of calm and relaxation.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil has a lot of health benefits and one of them is that it is beneficial for the nervous system. Lavender oil has a calming fragrance and hence works as a tonic for the nerves. It helps treating migraines, depression, headaches, anxiety, emotional stress and nervous tension. The refreshing aroma of lavender oil removes restlessness, nervous exhaustion and increases mental activity. It also helps induce sleep and hence lavender essential oils are recommended for insomnia.

Orange Essential Oil

As an all-natural method for improving immune function and fighting various ailments, orange oil has been a popular remedy in folk medicine throughout the Mediterranean, India and China for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Throughout history, orange oil has been used to treat widespread conditions, including: poor digestion, chronic fatigue, depression, oral and skin infections, colds, flu, and low libido. It’s considered an effective antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, deodorant, digestive stimulant and circulation-booster!

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang ylang is considered an effective antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic and sedative. It has a positive effect on immune health, blood flow and emotions, making it a natural remedy for the endocrine, cardiovascular, reproductive and digestive systems. With a naturally rich, floral scent that’s considered “romantic” and uplifting, many people like to diffuse ylang ylang in their bedrooms or add some to household cleaning products. The scent also has the ability to positively impact emotions and can help create a calming, relaxing atmosphere in your home. It especially can be useful for soothing you through a rough day when you add ylang ylang oil to your bath, lotion or other beauty care products.

Vetiver Essential Oil

Vetiver is known as a sacred herb valued because of its uplifting, soothing, healing and protective properties. It’s a natural body cooler — making it extremely popular in tropical countries. In fact, in India and Sri Lanka it’s known as the “oil of tranquility.” Some of vetiver oil uses include treating heat strokes, joint disorders and skin problems. Using vetiver oil is also a way to boost energy levels when you’re exhausted. In addition, it’s used to cool the body during very high temperatures and soothe feelings of anxiety and nervousness. Recent research credits vetiver oil for treating symptoms of ADHD and ADD. It’s also known to increase libido and treat insomnia without drugs.

Now that you know what is in the spray - how do you use it? It's super easy! Just apply a small amount of mist from the spray to your pillow (or pillows) before you're ready for bed. That's it! While laying in bed, you will smell the mixed essential oil aromas, which is light and subtle, not overpowering at all, which in turn helps your mind and body relax for sleep.

While I cannot tell if it works as far as better sleep, I can tell you that I have been sleeping great and I love the relaxing smell! Especially after a long a busy day and a nice warm bath, the spray is an amazing thing to have just for that little bit of added relaxation and relief. Overall, I am very pleased and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for ways to help unwind at the end of the day!
