This is the second hoverboard my daughter has had a chance to use and it was definitely a lot easier to work with than the first one. The first one she had was the GOTRAX™ HOVERFLY Hoverboard, which proved to be rather difficult. My daughter, 9-years-old at the time, was able to figure it out and use it. My husband, on the other hand, still has issues to this day. Moving forward to the Hoverfly ION Self Balancing Hoverboard, we noticed a great improvement!
While the hoverboard is very similar to the previous style we tested, I noticed that there is less weight to it. The first one had me struggling to unpackage it because it was rather heavy. Not too heavy to pick up per say, but it was a good bit and more than I cared to handle. This current hoverboard, while it still has a good bit of weight to it at roughly 20 pounds, it seems to be a tad lighter and definitely a bit easier to handle. So as soon as it arrived and we were able to unpackage it, I allowed it to charge for several hours before giving it a go. Let me rephrase that. Before my husband and, now 10-year-old, daughter gave it a go.
Once again, my husband was struggling with moving on the hoverboard, but not nearly as much as the first time. However, compared to my daughter he was moving like a pawpaw on it through the house. On the other hand, my daughter got on it and was able to immediately balance herself and move about without any problems. Oh, the joys of the youth of which my husband and I long for! We'd like to think we can still do things we did at her age, but the reality is our bodies just won't allow for it. Regardless, getting on the hoverboard was definitely a lot easier since it is 'self-balancing' so no more having one person hold it in place while you hop on and hope not to fall! The board moves with the weight of your body, so it feels almost intuitive when riding as well. Of course, I would recommend using it on a flat surface the first few times you try it so that you can get used to the speed and get comfortable turning on it before trying to get too adventurous with it if you're a first time user.
The hoverboard itself is very well built and put together. It seems rather sturdy and has been holding up well. Using it has been a breeze and rather self-explanatory. I love the gorgeous aqua color, too! Of course, they have several color options to choose from so you can find a color more fitting to your style. What makes it even cooler are the blue pulsing LED lights. You can see the ground pretty good with the front facing ones and the rims even light up too for even more lighting! The fact that it's a nice colorful light instead of a standard basic light makes it even better.
Ultimately, this thing is a lot of fun and perfect for kids and teenagers. Heck, even adults can have fun on it - you just have to learn to balance yourself! It’s for riders of all sizes and able to carry up anyone up to 200 lbs. There's a nice variety of colors to choose from rather than the boring old standard black that you see on everything. As you can see, our family was once again not disappointed. Would I recommend this? Absolutely!
