I got these and decided to decorate the trim around our bathtub in the bathroom with them and absolutely LOVE how it turns out. We have a garden tub, so being able to sit back in relax with some appropriate mood lighting is just a nice luxury to have sometimes. For those worrying about the lighting and safety, it`s okay - these are waterproof. We`ve had these up for several days now and while we don`t purposely try to get water on them, I`m sure splashes of it or mist get on them from bathing. Thus far, I have had no issues with them and they still work just fine.
The LEDs are spaced very close together on the strip, which I personally like. With this particular set you get one reel of LEDs with adhesive on the back, a 12 Volt AC adapter (laptop style with a grounded plug), an IR controller, and a 44 key remote control. The reel of lights is finished with four pin female ends. The IR controller is a small plastic box, not necessarily water resistant, with a 12V socket for the AC adapter, and a four inch pigtail IR receiver. Since the remote broadcasts IR in a wide pattern, it isn`t critical to get the receiver exactly aligned. It is important to note that this kit does not include any connector clips or additional wiring.
There are essentially no instructions included with the kit, however, it`s all pretty self explanitory. The 44 keys look daunting at first, but are really simple in practice. Upper right corner is the red power button. The play button beside it is to pause or play the effects selected down below. The two white buttons with the sun and a house on them are brightness control (each press changes the level - holding either down doesn`t change the brightness). The top group of colored buttons is preset colors - the top row is simple Red, Green, Blue, and White. Below those buttons are slight variations of those colors. The tricky part is the bottom section of buttons. At the very bottom is Jump and Fade. Jump 3 = flash between three colors - red, green, and blue. Jump 7 = flash seven different colors. Fade 3 = gradually change the color from red to green to blue. Fade 7 is with seven different colors. Flash = strobe light effect of the white light. All of those modes can be modified with the Quick or Slow button - each press will change the speed up or down. Now the black play button up next to the power button works - if you want to pause the program of jumping, fading, or flashing at a certain point, press that button. Press it again to resume the program. Press the DIY button you want to program. Now press the red, green, or blue arrows to get the custom color you want - each press will increase or decrease the amount of that one channel. When you have the color you want, press the DIY button again. Any time you press that DIY button, the lights will go to that custom color. There are 6 DIY memory buttons.
The LED strips have four copper pads with a cut line every few inches. This allows you to make smaller strips or customize the layout. You`ll have to provide your own header and wire for that modification, but this wasn`t a big deal for us and for what we used the lights for. The sockets in this set have an arrow for pin number one. When you plug in the strip, match the arrows. If you plug it in backwards (there are only two plug in options), the lights just won`t light up.
Needless to say, these are some amazing lights that work great. I have yet to find any defects with this brand in my lighting and certainly recommend them!
