In our house, we don't go swimming too often. We had a pool but got rid of it since we rarely used it and it was a pain to clean. So why would we invest in a swim cap? Okay, so not for a traditional use, but to assist us with wearing our Halloween wigs! Yes, you heard me - WIGS. My daughter and I dressed up as Elsa and Anna for Halloween last year and we had wigs. We both have thick hair - hers is curly and frizzy and mine is long and wavy. So getting our hair in just the wig (without a professional) just wasn't happening. We don't regularly use wigs so maybe it's just our ignorance to properly using them. Well, once again we plan to wear wigs without costumes and got a head start. To the rescue for this holiday was the Olympian Athletics Swim Cap. We use the swim caps to tuck in our hair and keep it from sticking out and then put the wig on. Much to my surprise, it worked like a charm! The swim cap stayed in place as did the wig (with the exception of my daughter since she is 6 and it was an adult wig). Of course, the caps never budged though keeping a complete seal on our heads and keeping our hair in. For those interested in this as a swim cap for its intended use here are some qualities to note. It is made of quality flexible silicone and is a little bit thicker than a latex swim cap. Not that it's really important, but it has a neutral smell, not a stinky one. The thing about silicone swim caps compared to latex is that it doesn't generate allergic reactions like latex does. It protects your hair well from chlorine. It also lasts longer than a latex swim cap, because it doesn't get attacked by chlorine and because it is thicker and therefore tears less easily. Also, because it is thicker than a latex swim cap it keeps the head warmer in cold water. So all in all, it's a quality cap for the intended use during swimming, but great in assistance for dressing up costume as well!
