Okay, so I have to admit, I wasn`t too sure about this. When it first arrived I found that getting it out the box was easy, however, opening it for the battery was quite difficult for the first time. It`s good because it leads me to believe that if dropped it will not easily break but at the same time a bit frustrating that I couldn`t get it open. In fact, I damaged it a slight bit attempting to use a small screwdriver before passing it along to my husband before I fully broke it. So kudos on keeping the battery compartment securely shut but would love an easier access point so it`s not so difficult to open. Once my husband got the finder open, we discovered it already had a battery in there, but it seems it was dead so it needed to be replaced anyway. So another positive aspect was that the spare battery was sent in this package. So once we got that in it was ready to go. I had my husband help me out with this review because he`s the tech guy and I figured he could better explain and use it than I could - if anything, a lot quicker. So once the battery was in place he used bluetooth to pair it to his Samsung S7 Edge smartphone. It took just a moment to do and had no issues connecting. you do need to put the device basically on top the phone to get it to pair as just setting it right next to it doesn`t seem to do the trick. Once paired, it was ready to work. You will hear a beeping sound when it is locating and you are able to find the location of the device using the app. Please note, you do need the app to use this item, but the good news is that it works for both Apple and Android product and will not be of any use without the app. So if you do not have a smartphone or cannot download the app for whatever reason you will not be able to use this. Thankfully we haven`t had the need to use this device, but we applied it to one of our cats collars to see how well it works since she likes to hide in the house. My house is only about 1700 square feet, so not huge. We were able to find her while she had the device attached with no issues. How far of a range will it really work? That I`m not 100% on, but within my home it worked fine. One downfall to this is that it can only be paired to just one phone at a time unless you share a login with someone. My husband originally set everything up through his phone and I was going to do the same thing so I went ahead and registered a new account and tried to pair it with it - it would not let me because it is connected to another device (phone). However, I was able to login to my husbands account through my phone and it let me use it that way. So this is a good and bad feature. Good for obvious security reasons of someone just stealing the device and taking it for themselves, but bad in the instance of wanting to have my own account for the device. My overall feeling is this is a nice feature to have. It could use some improvements, as it is not perfect, but the good seems to outweight the bad. It`s compact, light weight, easy to use and seems to work well for its intended purpose. At this point, I feel comfortable to recommend this device.
