When it comes to buying yogurt, there are myriad options. Unfortunately, most are overpriced. That's why today we're making our own! This creamy Homemade Probiotic Yogurt will be a morning favorite.

This simple recipe is both time, and cost-effective. Plus, it's rich, tastes like a tropical treat, and is good for you.

How Is Probiotic Yogurt Made?

Unlike traditional yogurt, made with fermented milk, coconut yogurt is thickened by natural additives. In this case, probiotic powder and gelatin (or agar agar if vegan).

How Does It Taste?

If coconut yogurt is a new foodie venture for you, rest assured it's delicious. The flavor is slightly tart and tangy with hints of coconut. It's creamy, and no, there's no taste of probiotics.

Now, Let's Make This Homemade Probiotic Yogurt!

There are a few steps involved in making the yogurt. Please be sure to follow each step carefully to avoid negative bacteria growth.

First you'll want to gather your materials. For this recipe, you'll need the following:

+ 1 large, sterilized glass jar (make sure to boil water, and clean it out!)

+ 2 Cans Full Fat Coconut Milk (it's important to be full fat)

+2 Probiotic-10 Complex 3 Billion Organisms Capsules

+ 1 Tablespoon Gelatin

+ 1 Tablespoon Liquid Sweetener of Choice

Step 1:

As stated above, sterilize all your equipment. We only want good bacteria for this recipe!

Step 2:

In a saucepan, over med-high heat, add in the 2 cans of Coconut Milk, and 1 Tablespoon of Gelatin. Stir together making sure to dissolve the gelatin completely. Note: You want the milk to reach a semi-boil, and be at temperature 180 degrees. This will starve off bad bacteria, and start to grow the good.

Step 3:

Add in sweetener, if you please, and let cool to 110-115 degrees.

Step 4:

Add in the 2 probiotic capsules, and stir in with a wooden spoon to evenly distribute.

Step 5:

Cover your glass jar with its lid. Store in the oven (keep oven off) with the oven light on for 24 hours.

Step 6:

Enjoy! Keep in refrigerator after opening

Note: If the yogurt turns pink or grey in color, throw it out, this is not a good thing even if it looks pretty!
