If you're trying to stop your TMJ headaches and tooth damage/breakage, get one of these. Since it makes contact between the front teeth rather than the molars, you will instinctively clench less. Front teeth are for low-pressure tearing of food. Molars are for ultra high-pressure grinding.

 

I like that no boiling water is required. However, getting it on can be a bit tricky and difficult if you're not familiar with these devices. It's difficult to seat and could put your jaw joints or tooth alignment at risk since you don't have the benefit of a professional examining your bite. Be very critical of how your teeth come together when you're wearing the device, and if it contacts more on one side than the other, reform it. If you can get a good fit, the flat surface that contacts the teeth is a good design idea so that your teeth just slide over it and don't catch.

 

Important hint when fitting: leave the heated guard in your mouth for 90 seconds then take it out and rinse in cold tap water for 30 seconds, THEN put it back in for 60 seconds. The cold rinse is in the written instructions but not the video. I found it was essential to get a tight enough fit. Don't worry if you don't get a perfect fit. You can remelt it and refit it as many times as you need to.

 

Overall, this is a very good mouth guard. I have tried quite a few in my quest to eliminate jaw pain. Where most mouthguards just protect the teeth from grinding but do not eliminate the clenching, this mouthguard transfers the contact area from the molars to the front teeth.
