Hisamitsu America announced that May 18, 2020 was “Salonpas® Day” which signals a day free from pain from the world leader in medicinal pain patches. While this day has been traditionally celebrated by passing out free samples to the public, this year, as the ‘new normal’ has dramatically shifted, the company has donated over 40,000 Salonpas Pain Relief Patch LARGE patches to “NYC Healthcare Heroes,” a city-wide philanthropic program launched with a $20 million donation by the Debra and Leon Black Family in partnership with Aramark, the world’s largest U.S.-based provider of food, facilities, and uniforms, to support over 100,000 New York City healthcare professionals on the front lines combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program – launched in partnership with the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, Robin Hood, New York City’s largest poverty fighting organization, and the American Red Cross – is providing “NYC Healthcare Heroes” packages of shelf-stable food, household cleaning and personal care products, as well as over-the-counter medicine including the Salonpas Pain Relief Patches, to the staff at hospitals across the five boroughs through June, alleviating the burden of having to shop for themselves and their families. In coordination with Aramark, which is donating labor to provide procurement, assembly, and delivery services, Red Cross volunteers are distributing the packages to hospital staff.
“We are honored to be a part of this ‘NYC Healthcare Heroes’ initiative and to help ease the pain of New York City’s medical heroes who serve so bravely on the front lines,” said John Incledon, President, Hisamitsu America, the marketers of Salonpas®, the world’s number one pain patch brand. With the advent of Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel approved as the second FDA drug cleared for OTC use (Salonpas Pain Relief Patch is the first OTC topical analgesic approved by the FDA), more and more arthritis pain sufferers are asking what is the best treatment option. In this video, former broadcast medical correspondent, Dr. Bob Arnot points out some things to consider if you are an arthritis sufferer and want to consider this product but it’s important to note that it’s not labeled for immediate relief like the Salonpas Pain Relief Patch and it can only be used on six joints and is not effective for other pains such as backaches or muscle strains.
With all that being said, I'm excited to announce that Salonpas kindly sent me some of their large pain patches to try out for myself. Salonpas Pain Relief Patch LARGE is the only OTC pain reliever labeled to relieve mild to tougher, moderate pain. Now, this long-lasting patch is double the size and comes in a 9-count Value Pack. Salonpas Pain Relief Patch LARGE contains two powerful pain fighting ingredients, menthol and methyl salicylate (an NSAID – a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug).
While these types of things don't seem to work well for me, I was rather surprised with how well these did. Check out my unboxing and close up of the item in my video below:
As you can see from the video, the patches are thin adhesives that are meant to stick to your skin. Each patch, as well as the box they come in, has directions to show you how to use these. Of course, it is rather self-explanatory, but just in case you need the instructions, they are there. The patches are easy to apply, however, be careful that the patch doesn't stick to itself in the process of applying or you'll have a tough time getting them to detach without ruining the patch.
Once applied, I found the patch to be comfortable to wear. It doesn't get in the way and the material is flexible enough I am able to move around without any issue. With the patch on, within a few minutes of applying it to your skin, you will feel a "tingling/cooling" sensation. While some people may not like that feeling, I thoroughly enjoy it. I find it helps relax my muscles and relieve minor pains. For instance, I have a chronic pain in my neck/shoulder that spurs up. Patches like this feel nice, but ultimately don't provide long-lasting relief in that area. However, I have been having some sore muscle pains from helping a friend move and just sore from lifting and the overall work involved. The patch helped with those pains giving me the relief I need. Of course, each person is different so each experience and effectiveness may be different.
Overall, I am so happy to have had these on hand once we finished moving all her belongings because I was dying and a hot shower can only do so much. So, needless to say, I would definitely recommend these!
