I have a 9-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. My daughter no longer uses a car seat, but my son down. We were using a previous brand,but I really don`t like how it never seemed secured. It was installed properly, but would easily shift, which would be a bad thing in the event of a car accident. What I love about this car seat is just how secured it is. It does not move and is seriously locked into place. Of course, with that, it is also much heavier than my previous car seat. My other one was light weight and easy for me to move. This one has added weight and required my husband to assemble and put in the car. The reason for this is probably because this car seat features a steel framework making it very strong. All the important components and side impact are constructed of steel. Your child will be as protected as possible in this thing. Aside from the heavy construction, the seat is lined with a nice, comfortable, layer of padding which is great for both comfort and protection of your child.
One thing I do have to say I am impressed with this is the latch system. For smaller children, the latch provides a convenient and quick mechanism to attach your car seat to your car. Instead of going through the motions of having put the seatbelt through various rabbit holes and then wondering if you did it right, latch provides a great and simpler and foolproof way to attach the car seat. The problem that latch has always had is that in most cars up to 2013, it was only rated to 40lbs. This was the combined weight of baby + car seat, so very quickly you wound up having to go to the seatbelt once your kid got over 25lbs. I also love that it uses a five point harness. The five point harness system is the safest around and I will keep my kid in one for as long as I can.
While this is a big car seat, it also works well for infants as this car seat can be set up to be rear facing. There are laws in every state for how long your child should be rear facing so please make sure you know your law and keep your kid rear facing as long as possible so keep this in mind. This car seat is intended to be the single car seat that you`ll ever need from 5 to 120lbs. Very few car seats could make this claim when my children were first born so yes it is expensive up front but consider that you won`t have to buy an infant car seat and you could be looking at a very cost effective solution here. One thing to note about this seat is that the "incline" for forward facing is about an inch or so. It simply does not allow for enough incline for a forward facing child to fall asleep and not instantly have their head fall down to their chest.
On top of all those cool features, I really love that it folds nearly flat for easy storage/portability. This is great for those who only use it sometimes or may be traveling.
Overall this seat is amazing and well worth the investment! It has a lot of features, but most importantly it provides the safety and protection I want my child to have while we are in the car. Plus, the little cup holder doesn`t hurt either. I highly recommend this seat to anyone in the market for a car seat!
