As you all know, I have a house full of cats - 14 to be exact! So, I am always on the lookout for fun stuff and delicious treats for them. Most recently, I discovered the
True Leaf Market Organic Self-Watering Cat Grass Kit and I'm excited to share my experience with you!
TheTrue Leaf Market Organic Self-Watering Cat Grass Kit allows you to grow your own pet grass on any countertop or windowsill without worrying about constant watering. This self-watering tray-wicking system automatically keeps the soil at the ideal moisture level. This set includes enough coco coir soil (OMRI approved for organic use) and cat grass for three plantings. This OTCO-certified organic cat grass kit is a healthy blend of hard red wheat (wheatgrass), oats (oat grass) & rye (ryegrass). This is the perfect kit for those of us who aren’t the best at watering indoor plants!
When I got my kit in I was eager to try it out for the cats! So I immediately opened the package and read the directions. The directions are on the back of the seed pack. It should be noted, there are no additional directions on how to put the planter together, but it's pretty simple to figure out - even for someone like me who has never had a kit like this before.
First, you need to soak the seeds for 4-10 hours. I opted to use the packet it came in to let them soak. While they did that, I got the planter together so it would be good to go once the seeds were done their soak. All you need to do is add water into the white container, then place the plastic container with the rope on top. The rope loops through two holes, so make sure when you place it, the 'hanging' part of the look (that sits in the tray of water) touches the bottom of that tray. The two ends that stick out will be poking through the top of that plastic layer. This is to ensure your seeds will get just enough water. I'm good at overwatering or forgetting to water, so this is really nifty and something I'm going to start doing with all my plants!
Next, place just one soil pod on top of the plastic layer. Once your seeds are done soaking, put them on top of the soil. I ended up mashing and mixing them together so I could get the soil to spread. After that, add the humidity dome on top and wait. The dome does not sit securely. It's just a loose piece of plastic that sits on top.
I placed my kit in my kitchen window and have been checking it every morning. As of this post, it was been 4 days since the seeds were planted and they have made some pretty quick progress! Usually, my seeds take FOREVER to grow. So I'm really impressed. As I checked my seeds this afternoon, one of my cats decided to do an inspection. She was already interested!
While the grass is not ready for the cats to go to town on just yet - it seems it will be ready in just a matter of days
(10-14 to be exact according to the website information) based on the fast growth rate I am noticing. I have been taking short video clips so once the grass is fully grown, I intend to put together a brief video and will post it to my Cat's TikTok Channel:
https://www.tiktok.com/@nolacrazycatlady. So keep an eye out for that in the coming days!
Needless to say, I am so excited about this kit and it appears that cats are thrilled about it too before it's even ready! This kit is affordable, fast-growing, and most importantly, the fur babies already like it!
