Have you ever noticed how expensive skin oils can be?
If you`re like us, you`ve found yourself wandering down the beauty aisle at some point in your life, overwhelmed by the selection, let alone the sticker shock! Creating your own
skin oils at home is so simple ”not to mention
so much more cost effective that we`ve put together some of our favorite blends to use on the skin to share with you here.
The Basics
When creating your skin oil, the most basic ingredients you`ll need are a
carrier oil (particularly one that is light and easily absorbed, such as
sweet almond oil,
coconut oil, or
apricot kernel oil),
essential oils, and a
mixing bottle. If you`d like to enhance your skin oil, feel free to add skin-supportive ingredients such as
vitamin E oil,
argan oil, or
aloe vera. When choosing your essential oils, be sure to choose based on your purpose. If you`re making a morning skin oil, you will want to avoid citrus oils such as
orange and
lemon as they are notorious for sensitizing the skin to sunlight. These oils are best used in nighttime skin oils. Keep in mind the golden ratio of aromatherapy: 1 ounce of carrier oil per 8-10 drops of essential oil to ensure proper dilution of the concentrated essential oils. You will combine your ingredients in a
mixing bottle and shake well before each use. From here, you can easily transfer to a
roll-on bottle for easy application or to a bottle with a
dropper top! Here are three of our favorite skin oil blends you can try for yourself:

1. If using
regular coconut oil, melt in a double boiler with ½ cup soy/
beeswax and add oils. Add mixture to a small jar. When the mixture (naturally) hardens, you will have a skin balm.
2. If using
liquid coconut oil, mix as usual in an aromatherapy bottle, as this coconut oil will not harden.
